Source: Sixers give C Dewayne Dedmon a second 10-day contract

(US Presswire)

The last 10 days have been eventful ones for Dewayne Dedmon.

He made his first NBA basket. He played meaningful minutes at this level for the first time in his career. And he even got his first trip to New York out of it.

“I’m enjoying it,” the 24-year-old said Wednesday. “I’m getting to play the Knicks. It’s definitely a good feeling.”

What’s an even-better feeling? Knowing you’re sticking around for another 10 days.

Thursday, the 76ers didn’t practice. So the only eventful news coming out of their camp was that they had signed Dedmon to a second 10-day contract, according to a league source.

This latest deal expires Feb. 1, by which date the Sixers will have to determine whether to cut ties with Dedmon, their rookie center, or sign him to a guaranteed contract through the remainder of the season. The Sixers first inked Dedmon Jan. 14, from the D-League’s Santa Cruz Warriors.

Dedmon averaged 3.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.0 block in 14.8 minutes per game for the Sixers, for whom he’s played five games. He had gotten a three-game stint earlier this season with Golden State, for which he played only six minutes a span of nine games.

The Sixers (14-28) like Dedmon’s intensity and rim protection on defense, and his rebounding at both ends of the floor. On multiple occasions in the last week and a half, Sixers coach Brett Brown has lauded the play of Dedmon, the USC product whose first foray into organized basketball was at the age of 18.

“It’s always good to hear a coach talk positively about you,” Dedmon said. “I’ve got to keep doing what I’ve been doing.”

He has another six games and 10 days to do just that.

Source: Sixers sign D-League center Dewayne Dedmon to a 10-day contract

(NBA.com)

The 76ers have signed NBA D-League center Dewayne Dedmon to a 10-day deal, a league source said.

The 24-year-old Dedmon will be in Philadelphia and with the team at practice Tuesday at PCOM.

Dedmon (7-0, 255), an undrafted Southern Cal product, played four games with Golden State this season. He’s averaged 15.2 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.33 blocks per game for the Santa Cruz Warriors, the Golden State Warriors’ NBA D-League affiliate.

Dedmon will immediately fill a void for the Sixers, who recently waived center Daniel Orton. They’re also awaiting the returns of forwards Lavoy Allen (calf) and Arnett Moultrie (ankle) from injuries, though neither is expected to be ready by the end of this week.
